Chromebook Program
At Westport Primary School we acknowledge the importance for children to be fluent and confident in their use of digital technologies. The individual use of Chromebooks is a way to empower students to maximise their full potential, preparing them for secondary education and the modern work place.Â
We support the right of all members of the school community to access safe and inclusive learning environment, including digital and online spaces. This document outlines the school’s roles and responsibilities in supporting safe digital learning as well as the expected behaviours we have of our students when using digital technologies. Â
What are Chromebooks?Â
Chromebooks are new devices that utilize the cloud for applications and saving work. Students get a free Google Drive for saving work which can be accessed by any computing device. Chromebooks utilize apps provided by Google that foster collaboration. They need little, if any maintenance as it is a completely web based device so there is no need for downloading or installing. Work on the Chromebook saves automatically to the Google Cloud. Â
School UseÂ
Chromebooks are intended for use at school each day. Students are responsible for bringing their Chromebook to school unless advised not to do so by their teacher. Chromebooks should be brought to school every day in a fully charged condition. Students need to charge their Chromebook each evening as there is no capacity to charge them at school and it is also a WHS (work, health safety) issue. When your child leaves Westport to go to High School the Chromebook is theirs to keep. Please note that as the school has invested heavily and paid 80% of the cost, we cannot release their Chromebook until this time as it would be too costly.Â
